In het voetspoor van Walfridus
audio walk along 9 listening points, 11 km / 40 min, 2018
In het voetspoor van Walfridus (aka Tracing Walfridus #04) is the fourth in a series of works that has been inspired by a local legend about Walfridus van Bedum. This historical figure lived around 1000 AD in Bedum (NL) and is said to be the first that cultivated the raised bogs between Bedum and Groningen (branch of Bourtangermoor). He did so by walking daily from his house to the church in Groningen. The piece is a construction of his route from Bedum to Groningen. The audio gives an impression of the bog sounds he might have heard during his walks (recorded in pristine bogs in Estonia). The walk begins at the Walfridus Church that has been built near Walfridus's grave and runs along listening points close to objects or infrastructure related to contemporary landscape cultivation, exploitation and natural gas extraction.
